I have completed my first pair of “Party Pant” which will be for sale in my Esty shop

orange and black swirls party pant. Size S

This pair of casual unisex trousers, referred to as “Party Pant” have been made out African wax print cotton fabric with orange and black swirls on a white background.

Made with an elastic waist and drawstring, 2 front pockets and French seams throughout for additional strength.  The fabric has been pre-washed to prevent shrinkage and colour run.

Blue and white spotty dress

For this dress, I manipultated a pattern I found on the Burda Style website.

The Burda Style website is great for sewing ideas and some patterns can be downloaded for free. The dress pattern I used had to be printed onto A4 paper, and there were approx. 25 pages which needed to be joined together and then cut out. This did take me a while to do and the finished pattern was rather stiff and covered with joins and  sticky tape!!

My alterations of the pattern:- I removed the ruffle, added the waistband, and slimmed down the entire dress. It took me 3 attempts to finish it and to make it fit correctly as the sizing was not very accurate. The construction of the dress was slightly frustrating and time consuming.

I think the polka dot pattern gives a lovely summery look to the dress, unfortunately with all this wintry weather, it may have to be stored in the wardrobe now until next summer.

Materials used:
approx 2 metres of fabric
long dress zipper
hook and eye
sewing thread

This week I have been working on 2 pairs of “party pant” to sell in my shop on the Etsy website. The trousers are not yet finished, but here are some photos of the fabric I’m using and some steps in the construction.

My vintage singer sewing machine

I thought I should introduce the sewing machine I use for all of my sewing.

I bought this machine from ebay in June last year. It is a vintage 1951 Singer Sewing machine with a treadle; however it been converted to electric. The machine has only one style of stitch – straight, and a reverse lever. The machine sews extremely well, though can be a little tempermental at times.

When the machine was delivered to my house, I was delighted to find some vintage tins, bobbins, pins and thread in the drawers along with the original sewing books.
