Red and White Summer Top

I recently bought a cotton scarf with red and white check pattern, and I didn’t particularly like the scarf; however the fabric was soft, light and big enough to make a top from. I used the free downloadable Sorbetto top pattern from Colette Patterns. http://www.coletterie.com/colette-patterns-news/free-pattern-to-download-the-sorbetto-top I did not scale the pattern correctly when I printed it as the size was not perfect but that just gives me the excuse to try again and make a few more tops. And here is the finished product. I used red bias binding to finish off the neck and arms.

I used the following website as a tutorial for this “Milk Maid” skirt. http://crafterhours.blogspot.com/2009/11/milkmaid-skirt-tutorial.html The use of bias binding on the pockets and around the hem is fantastic – as well as being contrasting in colour, it was easy to apply. I did try and make my own bias binding; however is was rather difficult and so much easier to buy !!
