Saturday morning “Party Pant”

Last weekend an early morning alarm startled me awake, and briefly I thought it was another weekday morning …. Luckily it wasn’t; however I was now completed awake at 6:30am on Saturday morning … 6:30am !!
What to do ……how about make some bright “Party Pant” for my boyfriend to wear to Wireless Festival in Hyde park later on Saturday.

Amending a size 8 elastic waist trousers pattern (bought for £1 from Ebay) I fashioned some African wax print cotton trousers suitable for my b/f. I added 2 front pockets and also adjused the front to be fitted with 2 darts and the back has an elastic waist.

Total construction time including pattern drafting and fitting, approx 3.5 hours. I plan now to invest in multi size trouser patterns, as this will cut down on the drafting and amendments.

I used the following website as a tutorial for this “Milk Maid” skirt.

The use of bias binding on the pockets and around the hem is fantastic – as well as being contrasting in colour, it was easy to apply. I did try and make my own bias binding; however is was rather difficult and so much easier to buy !!
The tutorial was easy to follow, and I feel confident that I could make another one of these skirts in about 2 hours.
I really love this skirt – it’s very comfortable, the pockets are a good size and the African print design is bright and colourful.

I have modified this pattern and have made a similar skirt for sale on Etsy – May 2012 – http://www.etsy.com/listing/99392888/elastic-waist-skirt-with-front-pockets
